so i have this game, right? and it's supposed to be better than mw2 in every way.
well, here's what i like about it.
-dedicated servers means less time spent waiting in lobbies and more time playing games
-without stopping power, more guns have a chance to shine, and more perks are useable instead of attempting to maximize deadliness with stopping power
-fewer explosives. i like not having to worry about tubes and launchers everywhere
-the ak-47 feels like every other ak-47 i've used in call of duty, best assault rifle~
-leveling is faster, prestiging seems pretty attractive
-it's a new game
and here's what i don't like about it.
-lag. lag lag lag. performance issues galore, i turned the game's graphics way down and took my resolution down to 1088x612, and it still runs at a meager 25 fps. moreover, the game freezes up every so often, leaving me to a beautiful death, and every time i encounter an enemy, framerate drops to approximately 15 fps.
-although turning down the graphics doesn't help, i still think everything looks ugly. animations don't feel as fluid as mw2 (framerate aside), guns sound like popcorn and look like cardboard, and maps look washed out and boring. if mw2 was too shiny and plasticky, blops is too matte and papery.
-wait time in between games is so fast that you have to actually leave a server in order to edit classes and stuff like that. great idea, give us a complicated, nearly illegible stat screen that we only have 10 seconds to survey between matches, and not be able to change classes for upcoming maps either.
-without stopping power i'm wasting a lot more bullets to kill people (or switching away from a target too fast), yet i feel like i'm dying just as quickly as if everyone else used stopping power. silencers seem like an awful idea at anything but close range combat.
-claymores trip way too quickly, and without tubes, now everyone's just spamming hand grenades everywhere.
-mw2 ak-47 was much better looking and the iron sights were easier
-leveling feels more grindy than before since you need to buy all the crap you unlock with cod points anyway. why not just put everything up for purchase and keep leveling as a way to track actual experience, instead of using it as a two-tier unlock system? feels stupid that you have to first unlock things via levels/challenges, and then buy them to ACTUALLY unlock them for use.
-for a new game it runs like shit
it's not as fun as mw2, like i expected. worse graphics, boring weapons, boring gameplay, boring maps. yet, the one thing that i DID expect out of it was less lag (iwnet bad hosts) and less time between matches (iwnet taking forever to find games), and both of those were awfully messed up: game performance is bad, with respects to framerate performance on my machine, and connecting to other players, and even connecting to servers; also, wait times in between matches is WAY too fast. i want to be able to stay on a server and at least tweak my classes a little, like maybe have time to purchase a new weapon when i level up?
i uninstalled black ops today and reinstalled mw2, which i plan to be playing until they patch the performance issues, at least. black ops is definitely unplayable now, but what will determine its success vs. modern warfare 2 is how much work treyarch is willing to do to improve it from this point forward.
